Assalamu alaikum Dear Community Member:

Are you looking to increase your Islamic understanding? Are you looking for spiritual motivation in the company of Islamic scholars and fellow believers? Masjid Uthman is pleased to announce a Friday night lecture series starting this week at its interim location (55 W 22^nd Street, Suite 110, Lombard)!

Join us as a panel of respected and traditionally educated scholars share their knowledge and insights in Quran, the classical Hadith texts, Fiqh, and our rich Islamic History. Or follow the lectures remotely as we post them to our recorded audio archives, at www.masjiduthman.org/lectures.

Tafsir of Quran by Mawlana Aziz Ahmed

Tafsir, or explanation and commentary of the Quran, is a well traveled path to gaining an understanding of Allah’s message to humankind. Through it, one can understand the many branches of Islam. The lectures will be delivered by a senior scholar of deep study and high esteem, in the Urdu language.

Muwatta of Imam Malik by Shaikh Bilal Ali

The Muwatta of Imam Malik is one of the earliest and most acclaimed collections of hadith and jurisprudence. Imam Shafi’I held it to be ‘The most authentic book on the face of the earth after the Quran’. Benefit from an exposition of it from a well regarded scholar who specializes in and teaches the science of hadith.

Al-Bidayah wa An-Nihayah of Ibn Kathir by Shaikh Abdul Hakeem Dickenson

Literally translated ‘The Beginning and the End”, and authored by the classical scholar famous for his tafsir, Al-Bidayah is a compendium of history, from creation, to the lives of the Prophets and Sahabah, to future events. Learn lessons from our past with the engaging style of an experienced teacher, and khateeb of Masjid Uthman.

Interim Location Opens on 55 W. 22nd St.

Dear Mussalis,

Join us for our opening and launch of the new interim location (Jan. 15th after Asr) until the masjid is constructed!

The new musalla is located at 55 W. 22nd street, suite 110, Lombard IL 60148. All daily salats will take place, please join us!

DuPage County Approves Zoning Permit!

By the Grace of Allah, and the dua’s of our musallis and supporters, our project was approved Sept. 13th 2011 by a vote of 12-4! (Go to 1:24:45)

Chicago Tribune mentioned:

“Some neighbors voiced their support for the project at Tuesday’s board meeting.

‘This is a positive use for the property,” said Tony Radunski. “(This site has) long been a thorn in the county’s business. If it’s not developed now, it’s going to be back on your table again.’

In July, board members deferred their vote on the Pin Oak proposal, but they did deny the group’s plan for a roughly 50-foot-tall dome on the property. The building will not be permitted to exceed 36 feet in height.” (Read whole article here)

Aside from major newspapers like Chicago Tribune, local newspapers such as Lombard Spectator had also mentioned this:

“At Tuesday’s (Sept. 13) meeting, the County Board approved the construction plans, which will allow the project to move forward.

Mark Daniel, Elmhurst-based lawyer who represented the organization, said that after the lengthy bureaucratic process, it’s good to see the project moving forward.

‘We’re certainly happy about it,’ Daniel said. ‘We think it’s a very good use of the location.

Although the typical time for getting construction plans approved by the board varies, Daniel said this specific project took longer because a preliminary recommendation from IDOT changed after receiving feedback from residents.”
