In this course, students will examine the development of the Qurānic script from the time of the Prophet ﷺ until the present day. Through an in-depth analysis, we will explore topics such as the compilation of the Qurān, its modes of revelation, and modern day objections in regards to its preservation. Students will also conduct a detailed study of the principles that govern the Qurānic script. Lastly, students will gain an appreciation for the Qurānic script and its history by learning the codification of variant readings (qira’at). Due to the advanced nature of this material, students must have some prior background in the Quran, such as hifz, a formal study of tajwid or Arabic, or exposure to ulum al-Quran. The timings are subject to change through the year based on salah timings. Please note there will be no class in Ramadan.
