Quran Rihlah

About The Program

According to the Prophet ﷺ, nothing brings a person closer to Allah than that which came from Allah Himself, the Quran. When it comes to the beginning of the Quran journey, the focus is typically reciting its words, perfecting its pronunciation, and memorizing it. The Quran Rihlah establishes foundations for the next step in the Quran journey: comprehending Allah’s message to us all.

The Quran Rihlah concentrates primarily on learning the classical Arabic language in which the Quran was revealed. This program is distinct in that it integrates all four language learning skills: speaking and writing in addition to reading and listening. It does so through natural language learning techniques, immersion, and vocabulary building. By the end of this year, the goal for students is to comprehend foundational Arabic vocabulary and common sentences. These are the major stages in the journey to Quran comprehension and its deep insight. Students will also acquire the ability to construct basic sentences for effective communication in both spoken and written forms.

Along with understanding Quranic Arabic, students will develop a Quranic world view by studying more advanced topics in theology (aqidah, or iman), practice (fiqh, or Islam), spirituality (ihsan), and Islamic history (tarikh) relevant to today’s high school or college student, in a discussion based format. We believe this Quranic worldview should be understood by every young Muslim before going to high school and/or college. It will provide them with strong intellectual foundations for their belief, promote an understanding of their tradition, and equip them with knowledge to practice Islamic comprehensively in adult life. Students will also further advance their pronunciation (tajwid) of the Quran and will develop handwriting skills through training in Arabic calligraphy by experts in these areas.

An important component of the program is development of Quranic character. This will be accomplished through service work (khidmah) and character building activities, in addition to the companionship (suhbah) of traditionally trained scholars (ulema).

This program is an excellent option for students who have recently completed memorization of the Quran (hifz), for high school students prior to entering college, or as a first year for students embarking on the ‘alimiyyah. Students in 8th through 12th grades may combine this with homeschooling.
