Sisters’ Classes 2024-25

Quran Memorization & Tajwid

This class combines a structured tajwid learning program with Quran memorization (tahfiz). It is an excellent opportunity for sisters to spend mornings connecting with Allah’s book. Students will improve their Quran recitation to a high level, with a female reciter who has an ijazah in the Hafs mode of recitation. Sisters will also memorize the Quran in a structured format of new memorization and revision. Motivated sisters can pursue this program long term to complete memorization of the entire Quran. This class will follow the Quran Memorization (for children) calendar, except that the teacher may give an additional 7 days off in the year with advance notice to students.

Arabic 110: Access to the Divine Language

This is the first year of a two year course tailored for women who have grown in their love for the Quran and seek to deepen their understanding of it through the Arabic language. Focused on practice of the Quranic language, and coupled with the study of nahw (syntax) and sarf (morphology), the course offers a rigorous exploration of the Arabic language needed to directly understand the meaning of the Quran and classical texts. This course will allow hafizat to enjoy the beauty of meaning in Allah’s speech. It is also designed for those who have previous education in fiqh and Sirah. This is a great opportunity for those committed to enhancing their own knowledge of the Quran, with an aim to teach it further to their loved ones and the community.

History 151: Women in Islam

In today’s society, Muslim women are constantly being defined and redefined by popular media, cultural norms, and the Western world. Islam, however, provided us with a blueprint of what it really means to be a Muslim woman. In this course, we will explore the lives of prolific female scholars, leaders, and thinkers of the past. By examining their stories, we hope to motivate our communities today to emulate the bravery, scholarship, leadership, and entrepreneurship of these women. Join us to be inspired by the legacy of these women, as we strive to become better Muslims ourselves.
